Natural rum

When categorizing what we call "natural rum," no sugar or similar additives are added to round off the taste. The same applies to "Rhum Agricole," which has its own category. Natural rum can either be column-distilled or distilled in traditional pot stills (depending on the specific distillery). Most rums in this category are of the so-called "English rum style," which we know primarily from Jamaica (e.g., Hampden or Appleton) and Barbados (e.g., Doorly's), but natural rum also exists from other regions. Likewise, certain independent bottlers such as SBS and Bristol Classic have chosen to produce natural rum without added sugar. Natural rum should be enjoyed neat as an aperitif or after a meal.
