Rhum Agricole
Rhum Agricole is a very special style of rum, which can also be described as "agricultural rum" (the translation of the French meaning). When talking about Rhum Agricole, the most important factor is that the rum is often made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice (instead of molasses). This production method is more expensive and more demanding, as the sugarcane juice ideally needs to be pressed and used within 24-36 hours. Furthermore, the rum can therefore only be produced during the harvest season, which typically runs from February to May/June. Martinique and Guadeloupe, in particular, are known for Rhum Agricole, but Rhum Agricole is also produced elsewhere. In 1996, Martinique introduced an AOC classification (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), which imposes strict requirements on the cultivation of sugarcane, the quality of the sugarcane juice, and the production of the rum, including the distillation method. We carry Rhum Agricole from, among others, HSE, Clemént, and J.M.
