GlenDronach

GlenDronach is located in the Highland region and is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. GlenDronach was founded by James Allardice, who in 1826 obtained a license to produce whisky on the site. Production is based on non-peated malt, which is sourced externally. Maturation takes place in used bourbon casks and European oak casks, but sherry cask maturation is also used, which helps to create GlenDronach's characteristic whisky flavour with notes of fruit and and sherry. In this single malt scotch whisky series, we offer, among others, GlenDronach Original 12 Year Old, GlenDronach Revival 15 Year Old and GlenDronach Old Highland 18 Year Old.

What type of whisky is GlenDronach whisky?

GlenDronach whisky comes from the GlenDronach Distillery, located in Aberdeenshire in the Scottish Highland region. GlenDronach is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highland region, matured in used bourbon and sherry casks. GlenDronach whiskies are typically fruity in taste and not smoky/unpeated. Although GlenDronach is usually completely unpeated, there are no rules without exceptions. GlenDronach has indeed also released a single, lightly peated whisky with their Traditionally Peated Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Furthermore, GlenDronach's whisky releases exclusively feature natural color. The amber-golden color comes from maturation in former sherry casks.

How old is GlenDronach whisky?

Age-dating alcohol is a bit of a science. When it comes to rum, depending on the country of origin, it can be either the oldest rum in a blend or the youngest that determines the age, while there are complicated rules for determining the age of cognac. It's simpler with whisky, where the age of the youngest whisky in the blend is always stated as the age on the bottle. GlenDronach's whisky releases range from 8 years to rare limited editions of 50 years. At Rombo, our oldest GlenDronach Old Highland is 18 years old.
