SBS Jamaica 2016 WPL rum (bottled for Belgium/France)
The SBS Jamaica 2016 WPL Bourbon and Marsala Cask rum is part of the Single Barrel Selection series, which consists of unique single cask bottlings that are non-chill filtered and without added sweetness or color.
This very special SBS Jamaica 2016 WPL Bourbon and Marsala Cask rum is number 218 in the SBS series, and it was actually released in Belgium and France, but we had the opportunity to acquire a few bottles in connection with an SBS rum tasting in the store.
Single Barrel Selection Jamaica 2016 WPL is molasses-based and distilled in a pot still in 2016. The rum has matured in both bourbon casks and Marsala casks, and it was bottled in September 2025. WPL stands for "Worthy Park Light," which is a marque referring to the ester content in the rum.
When nosing this rum, notes of ripe banana, pineapple, papaya, dried fruit, nuts, and a hint of honey are perceived. The taste offers tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple, combined with caramel and roasted nuts.
Only 396 bottles were bottled at 52% abv.

SBS stands for Single Barrel Selection, and this series of rums is produced by the Danish rum importer, 1423 ApS, who are also behind brands such as Ron Esclavo. The SBS Rum releases are generally unsweetened (without added sugar), non-chill filtered, and at a higher alcohol strength (some of the SBS rum bottlings are even bottled at cask strength).
