This wonderful 20 cl. sample of SBS Jamaica 2020 DOK Port Cask rum is part of a previous gift set of 4 x 20 cl. Jamaica DOK with different types of cask maturation, which was released in Denmark in 2023 but is now sold out. However, we had the opportunity to purchase the remaining loose bottles from the producer, 1423 ApS.
SBS Jamaica 2020 DOK Port Cask is molasses-based and aged for a good 2 years in port wine casks. "DOK" or Dermot Owen Kelly is a legendary mark from Hampden Estate in Jamaica, and it is the rum with the highest ester content at Hampden Estate. DOK reaches the highest legal levels of ester content for rum at 1,500-1,600 gr/HLPA. Tasting DOK is an extremely intense but highly informative experience.
Most often, DOK rum is aged in bourbon casks, but here's an opportunity to try how it tastes in port wine casks.

SBS stands for Single Barrel Selection, and this series of rums is produced by the Danish rum importer, 1423 ApS, who are also behind brands such as Ron Esclavo. The SBS Rum releases are generally unsweetened (without added sugar), non-chill filtered, and at a higher alcohol strength (some of the SBS rum bottlings are even bottled at cask strength).
