Who was A.H. Riise?

A.H. Riise is named after Albert Heinrich Riise from Ærø, who established and ran the first pharmacy on St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies between 1838-1878. A.H. Riise was also something of an entrepreneur, who also distilled rum and bitters in the West Indies. A.H. Riise achieved great success with his rum, which he primarily exported to Denmark. Riise earned several distinguished titles and became both a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog and a Knight of the Swedish Order of Vasa. He ended his days in Frederiksberg, where he is also laid to rest.

All Old St. Croix products are blends that are distilled and aged in the Caribbean and Central America, and then blended and bottled in Flensburg. Many of the releases in the series are, according to the producer, based on a number of A.H. Riise's original rum recipes. A.H. Riise Spirits is 100% Danish-owned and is one of the largest spirit producers in the Nordic region, also manufacturing gin, liqueurs, and bitters. A.H. Riise has its headquarters in Dragør.

Old St. Croix products are what used to be calledextra sweet rumand sweet rum.However, due to the high sugar content, A.H. Riise can no longer be called rum, so it is instead referred to as "extra sweet cane sugar-based spirit".
