Irish Whiskey

Irish whiskey is somewhat overshadowed by its dominant Scottish older brother, even though it is believed that it was actually the Irish who "invented" whiskey. The name "whiskey" comes from the Gaelic uisce beatha, which means water of life. The main difference between Irish and Scotch whiskey is that Irish whiskey is more accessible and completely without smoke, as its production is based on dry barley. Irish whiskey is also typically distilled 3 times and in larger stills before being aged in casks. In addition, the Irish – like the Americans – spell it "whiskey" instead of the Scottish spelling "whisky."
