Japanese Whisky
Japanese whisky has been on a strong rise in recent years. In fact, some of the major producers like Suntory and Nikka from Japan go back almost 100 years, so whisky from Japan is not new, but it has simply become more "hot" (especially after Yamazaki 12 Year Old was honored as the world's best single malt whisky in a major competition). Primarily malt whisky is produced in Japan based on Scottish traditions, and often the malt is also sourced from Scotland. The Nikka distillery produces single malt whisky in the form of the Yoichi and Miagikyo brands, but we also encounter terms like pure malt and vatted malt on several whiskies under the Nikka brand.
