Plantation Hogo Monsta High Ester Barbados Rum 20 cl

Planteray Hogo Monsta is a so-called high-ester rum from the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) in Barbados. In fact, the ester count is as high as 2,029 hL AA, making it quite a wild card in terms of aroma and taste.

One of the reasons for the high ester content is the long fermentation, where the various molasses and yeast types remain in the fermentation tanks for 14-21 days. The other reason is that two different pot stills were chosen for distillation, both "tailored" for the production of high-ester rum. First, the rum is distilled in the John Dore #88 pot still, and then it is distilled a second time in WIRD's heritage Old Gregg pot still.

Subsequently, Planteray Hogo Monsta High Ester Barbados Rum is aged for 3 years, of which 6 months took place in Barbados, and the last 2.5 years took place in France.

Hogo is an abbreviation for "Haut Goût," which means "much taste" in French, and in this case, it refers to the intense and funky aroma found in high-ester rum. The team at WIRD, who fermented and distilled the rum, themselves called it "Monsta," and therefore this rum was named Hogo Monsta.
