Glenrothes
The Glenrothes distillery was founded in 1879 and is located in the Scottish Speyside region. They do not malt their own barley but purchase lightly peated malt from external sources. After fermentation and distillation, the whisky is matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks. A significant portion of Glenrothes' production is used for Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. In the production of their own The Glenrothes whisky, the philosophy used to be that "a whisky is ready when it's ready," and therefore, they did not focus on bottles with a specific age statement. Instead, they primarily produced Vintage whisky from specific years when the Master Blender deemed them fully matured. However, in 2019, they transitioned to age-statement whiskies and increased the use of sherry casks. The new series includes Glenrothes 12 Year Old and Whisky Makers Cut, among others.
