A1710
A1710 is the smallest rum distillery in Martinique and a craft distillery that opened in 2016. The distillery is named after the year 1710, when Jean Assier arrived (the 'a' stands for "arrivé") in Martinique and founded Habitation du Simon, where his descendant Yves Assier de Pompignan opened the distillery in 2016. The distillery has only 8 employees and a different approach to rum production than is usually seen on the island. Typically, rum in Martinique is distilled on single-column stills, but A1710 uses a small-batch still with a single pot and a smaller column. So, even though A1710 also uses fresh sugarcane juice to distill rum, their rum gets a softer flavor profile than the classic rhum agricole found elsewhere in Martinique. A1710 also shares the same address as the Danish consulate in Martinique - as Yves Assier de Pompignan is the Danish consul there.
