Old St. Croix (formerly "A.H. Riise") Non Plus Ultra Black Edition refers to the inscription on the Pillars of Hercules, which, according to Roman mythology, were built near the Strait of Gibraltar and marked the boundary of the unknown world. The pillars bore the inscription "Non Plus Ultra" (Latin for 'no further beyond') as a warning to seafarers not to continue sailing into the unknown.

Old St. Croix Non Plus Ultra Black Edition is based on the first "Very Rare" edition, but the NPU Black Edition is a blend of other casks (reportedly more than 50 different ones). Old St. Croix Non Plus Ultra Black Edition is very dark/black in color, and it has aromas of molasses, oak, tobacco, licorice, and spices, among others. The taste offers notes of cedar, vanilla, caramel, and molasses, among others.

As of June 13, 2025, the name has been changed from A.H. Riise to Old St. Croix.
