John D Taylor's Velvet Falernum

Falernum is generally a syrup (liqueur) from the Caribbean, typically used in tropical beverages. Falernum is available both without alcohol as a syrup and with alcohol as a syrup liqueur, where rum is added, and often also flavors of ginger, lime, citrus, almond, and possibly cloves and spices. It is often used as a mixer for tropical cocktails or tiki drinks, but Falernum can also be enjoyed neat "on the rocks". Its origin dates back to the 18th century, when Falernum was used for punch in Barbados and the surrounding areas.

John D Taylor's Velvet Falernum is a syrup liqueur with 11% ABV, and many refer to it as the original Falernum. John D Taylor's Velvet Falernum is based on Barbados rum, blended with lime juice, sugarcane syrup, and spices, and is produced by R.L Seale in Barbados, who is also behind, among others, the Doorly's rum series.

Suggestions for a Falernum cocktail:

- Fill a glass with ice cubes
- 3 parts Velvet Falernum
- 1 part Doorlys XO Rum
- Perhaps a splash of sparkling water
- Garnish with a slice of lemon or lime
