Lochlea Ploughing Edition First Crop Single Malt Whisky
Lochlea Ploughing Edition First Crop Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the first peated whisky from Lochlea Distillery. It is the fourth release in their Seasonal Releases series and is inspired by winter, when the fields are ploughed to prepare them for spring. Here, each whisky represents life on the farm in Ayrshire, where the distillery is located. At Lochlea, they grow their own grain, and distil and mature their whisky on site. With their seasonal, small batch whiskies, they aim to reflect farm life as it changes with the seasons.
This whisky is matured in Ex-Islay Whisky casks and Peated Quarter Casks, which impart elegant notes of smoke that mingle with the sublime flavour offered by a Lochlea Single Malt Whisky.
Who better to select casks from Islay than Lochlea's Production Director, John Campbell, who has 28 years of experience from Laphroaig Distillery before joining Lochlea Distillery.
Upon first nosing, you encounter notes of baked fruit accompanied by a light peat smoke. On the palate, it reveals flavour nuances of old hard candies, baked apple, and Brazil nuts. The finish is characterised by lingering fruit, accompanied by a veil of Islay peat smoke.
By using their own local barley, grown on the farm, and brewed with their on-site water source, Lochlea has full control and transparency over all the ingredients that go into their whisky. This gives them better quality control and creates a flavour profile that is unique to Lochlea. Furthermore, the location in the Scottish Lowlands offers the best of both worlds. Located in the heart of Ayrshire, Lochlea has beautiful rolling hills around the distillery, yet is easily accessible from many of Scotland's major cities.
Both the bottle and the accompanying box feature an ice-blue label, reflecting the cold and frosty Ayrshire winters. 46% - 70 cl.
