Highland Park 21 Year Old Single Malt Whisky 2023 Release

Highland Park 21 YO whisky is produced at the world's northernmost distillery on the legendary Orkney Islands. Highland Park was established in 1798 on these very islands, which reportedly belonged to a well-known whisky smuggler. The smuggler, Magnus Eunson, benefited from a strong position within the church and could therefore conduct his side business undisturbed. Who would think of searching for illicit goods under the pulpit?

Highland Park's unique character is due to the peat used as fuel for drying the grain. This particular peat has absorbed salty waves for centuries and imparts a heathery note to the whisky. Michael Jackson, author of many famous books on whisky, describes Highland Park as "the greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky".

This Highland Park 21 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is from the 2023 release and is composed of a total of 36 first-fill European and American hogshead sherry casks, bourbon hogshead casks, refill hogshead casks, and ex-Rioja casks, all laid down for maturation between 1998 and 2001. Gordon Motion, Highland Park's Master Whisky Maker, personally selected the casks that together create an intense and perfect balance. Each individual cask has been matured for a minimum of 21 years.

Highland Park 21 Year Old Single Malt Whisky has aromas of tropical fruits, toasted almonds, nutmeg, and peat smoke. The taste offers notes of citrus peel, caramelized apples, honey, cinnamon, paprika, and peat smoke.
