Abuelo XII Three Angels Rum
Abuelo XII Three Angels is a wonderfully smooth "single estate" rum from the Varela Hermanos distillery in Panama, although it is a bit more powerful and intense than the popular Abuelo XII Two Oaks edition. Both Abuelo XII Three Angels and Abuelo XII Two Oaks are double-aged for 12 years. First in bourbon casks and then in extra-toasted new oak casks. The difference is that Three Angels is the edition exclusively taken from casks in the top row of Ron Abuelo's vintage pallet warehouses, where the temperature reaches up to 35°C, causing evaporation (angel's share) to reach as much as 15% per year, which also accelerates maturation and complexity. Nose: roasted hazelnuts, sweet spices, exotic fruit, leather, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans. Taste: burnt oak, vanilla, honey, and dried fruit. The finish is long, spicy, and "burnt" with notes of cocoa. Abuelo XII Three Angels is bottled at 43%, which is slightly higher than the usual 40% in the Abuelo series. 70 cl.

Ron Abuelo is a consistently medium-sweet rum series, which, however, even from its 7-year-old edition, also boasts good complexity that balances the sweetness in a pleasant way. In other words, Ron Abuelo offers good rum for your money! The distillery's showpiece is Ron Abuelo Centuria Reserva de la Familia, which was named Best New Rum at the Golden Rum Barrel Awards in October 2011 in London.
