Tasting notes for Ron Abuelo Centuria Reserva de la Familia. Nose: thick, sticky, syrupy nose with smoky notes of molasses and black treacle. Vanilla and barrel char, a hint of oily espresso bean and a beautiful note of cedar. It develops into hints of asphalt on a warm summer day, old rope and apple sprinkled with dark brown sugar. Taste: Sweet and rounded, intensely fruity like apple strudel with soft, juicy sultanas, nutmeg and cinnamon. Melted vanilla ice cream, toasted brioche with Demerara sugar, caramel apples and just a hint of smoke. The whole package is not unlike bread and butter pudding. Finish: Medium-long finish with prunes and walnut. Hints of cardamom on the tail. It almost feels like a real Pedro Ximinez sherry aftertaste too.
