Old Fashioned Cocktail Kit

The Old Fashioned is perhaps the best-known whiskey cocktail in the world. It basically consists of bourbon, lightly sweetened with sugar and modified with a few dashes of bitters.

The Old Fashioned, as we know it today, originates from an old cocktail called the Whiskey Cocktail, which is believed to have become popular in the late 1700s, when it was fashionable to add a few dashes of bitters to a glass of whiskey.

Over time, several variations of the Whiskey Cocktail evolved, from the Improved Whiskey Cocktail with the addition of absinthe to the Fancy Whiskey Cocktail with orange curaçao. As variations proliferated, some seeking the simple original version began to ask for an "Old-Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail." This order eventually evolved into a drink with ice in a rocks glass and became simply known as an Old Fashioned.

Suggested recipe:

• 6 cl Bourbon whiskey
• 2 dashes Angostura Bitter
• 1 tsp Sugar Syrup
• 1 Orange

You will buy the following in the cocktail package:

• 1 bottle Maker's Mark bourbon
• 1 bottle Giffard Sugar Syrup
• Please note that Angostura Bitter is not included but may need to be purchased separately

Steps

• Cut 3 slices of orange peel - as little of the white pith as possible
• Add orange peels, sugar syrup, Angostura Bitter to a glass.
• Lightly muddle everything together.
• Add ice cubes and bourbon.
• Stir with a spoon.
• Strain through a sieve into a glass with ice.
• Finally: Garnish with the last orange peel, if desired.

You can also use Angostura Orange Bitter if you want a more prominent orange flavor.
