Black Tot

The name Black Tot refers to Black Tot Day – or July 31, 1970 – when the British Navy finally put a stopper in the rum bottle and for the last time poured a daily 'tot' of 7 cl of strong rum (54.5%) to the navy's men. This broke with a centuries-old tradition, but the time had simply passed for being slightly drunk on the job when dealing with nuclear missiles and the like. So the navy's remaining stock of rum was put aside and only used on special occasions. However, Elixir Distillers has acquired some of the original rum from 1970 and bottled it under the name Black Tot Rum. They have also created a modern rum blend under the same name, based on the original navy blend.
