The Real McCoy

The Real McCoy Rum is named after the legend Bill McCoy, who was a "rum runner" during Prohibition in the USA. From 1920-1933, there was a general alcohol ban in the USA, so Bill McCoy sailed barrels of rum from the Caribbean to anchor a few kilometers off the American east coast in international waters to legally sell rum to Americans who sailed out to his ship. Other "rum runners" began to copy McCoy, but Bill became known for selling the best spirits: "The Real McCoy®". Bill McCoy got his rum from Barbados, and The Real McCoy rum is therefore from Foursquare Distillery, which has developed a classic Barbados rum that adheres to McCoy's idea of never "falsifying" the rum by adding sugar, caramel coloring, or flavorings.
