El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 Year Solera

El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 years is aged using the Solera method and therefore contains rum up to 22 years old. El Ron Prohibido means "the forbidden rum," and this is because the Spanish king in 1796 banned that particular rum recipe from Mexico, as it had become so popular in Spain that it posed a threat to local producers. El Ron Prohibido is a recreation of "the forbidden rum," which originated around the year 1700 when local rum (Chinquirito) in Mexico was aged in barrels that had contained sweet Spanish wine. This gave the rum a very special character that became incredibly popular and subsequently forbidden. El Ron Prohibido was also called Habanero, as Havana in Cuba was the last stop on the voyage from Mexico to Spain.
