Rijk's 2019 Reserve Chenin Blanc

Rijk's Reserve Chenin Blanc 2019 has a golden hue and is full-bodied. This beautifully crafted wine has an attractive nose with a combination of tropical and yellow fruit aromas with hints of cashews. These flavors are supported on the palate by a delicate use of oak, allowing the true varietal characteristics to shine. It has a long lingering finish that leaves the palate screaming for more.

The soil type for this wine is slate. The grapes were hand-harvested at night in small baskets to preserve them as best as possible. The grapes were then gently crushed and pressed. The wine is 80% naturally spontaneously fermented, followed by 12 months of aging before being bottled.

Rijk's is an "up and coming" producer in Tulbagh, specializing in Pinotage and Chenin Blanc grapes. It was started by Neville Dorrington back in 1996. Neville had worked for 20 years in the leather industry and wanted to try something new. So, he and his family moved to Tulbagh, which was then unknown in the wine world. They settled on a farm where no wine had ever been grown before. But analyses showed that the conditions were ideal for cultivation with low yields and high quality. Today, Rijk's is considered one of the absolute best Pinotage houses in the world, and they are one of only two houses to have achieved 10 ABSA Top 10 awards.
