Mojito Cocktail Kit
Mojito is one of the most popular rum cocktails served today - and a recipe known worldwide.
The origin of this classic cocktail can be traced to Cuba and the 16th-century cocktail El Draque - named after Sir Francis Drake, the English sea captain and explorer who visited Havana in 1586. El Draque consisted of aguardiente, lime, mint, and sugar.
Over time, rum became a substitute for aguardiente, and the name was changed to Mojito. It is unclear exactly when this happened, but the Mojito first appeared in cocktail literature in the 1932 edition of "Sloppy Joe's Bar Cocktail Manual", a book from the famous Havana institution.
Suggested recipe:
- 4 cl White rum
- 2 cl Freshly squeezed lime juice
- 6 cl Soda water
- 10 mint leaves
- 1-2 tsp Cane sugar or 1 cl Sugar syrup
- 1/2 Lime
You buy the following in the cocktail package:
- 1 bottle Cortez Blanco rum
- 1 bottle Giffard Sugar Syrup
Steps:
- Start by cutting the half lime into four lime wedges.
- Then place the mint leaves and 1 lime wedge in a glass.
- Then muddle the mint and lime wedge to release the flavors.
- Add cane sugar or sugar syrup and 2 lime wedges, and muddle again.
- Add rum and soda water.
- Finish by stirring and taste with extra sugar if you feel it is necessary.
- You can add the last lime wedge as garnish, if desired.
If you use mint leaves as garnish, gently rub them to release the mint's aroma.
